From the Other Side of the Static

About
The Soft Static is an independent publication launched in June 2025 by Shelby Prewett.
A blog about the good kind of absolute nothing, the unimportant, yet strangely important moments we all seem to share. The memories that never asked to matter, but somehow always did, and the soft static humming in the background of the moments we almost missed: childhood wonder, emotional messes, poetic nonsense, and those weird thoughts you get in the shower. I overthink grammar, under think spelling, and somehow still end up hitting “post” anyway, because it turns out life really is more about all those "meaningless moments," the little things that meant everything, after all.

Disclosure
Some of my poems/writings were written during tough years, and are full of tangled, heavy emotions: teenage angst, identity struggles, depression, heartbreak, grief, growing pains, frustration with the parental units, and all the messy parts of growing up and being human.
These feelings were real when I wrote them, even if they don’t reflect where I am now. I’m in a different place today, but these words helped me survive — and that makes them worth sharing.
So if one crackles a little too loud for you, just know it’s part of the static between then and now.
